Engineering and Design of a Wastewater Treatment System

The first step is designing a system the satisfies all your needs. Our sales team and engineers discuss your needs, problems, and concerns then they sit down to design a system that works for you. This may include running samples of your wastewater through our lab, or it may require a site visit so we can determine the best solution for your particular situation. All of our systems are custom designed and built so we can design around your unique needs and requirements.

After the system has been designed and approved Met-Chem begins fabrication of the system.

Wastewater Treatment System Operation and Process

Equalization Tank

Incoming wastewater from various streams are collected in the equalization tank. The main function and purpose of the equalization tank is to make the wastewater homogeneous, and it maintains the desired flow rate. Depending on your specific needs, additional treatment for certain metals may need to be added, such as a chromium conversion or cyanide destruction station.

pH Adjust Tanks

By adjusting the pH (hydroxide ion concentration) of the wastewater, metals become insoluble and they become easier to remove. Typically a two-stage pH Adjustment system is used obtain a specific pH Target. The two-stage pH system is more economical and Saves on Time, Chemicals, and Money.

pH Adjust #1

The first pH Adjust Tank is used for the gross adjustment of pH. This will narrow the pH level in order to help hit a manageable target.

pH Adjust #2

The second pH Adjust Tank is used for fine adjustment. An exact pH is needed for the polymer to help settle the Metal Hydroxides out of the water.

Clarifier

After the wastewater has had the pH adjusted, it will go into a clarifier, where polymer is added into the flocculation tank. Here the sludge settles to the bottom of the clarifier. Wastewater from the top of the clarifier can be safely discharged. While the sludge will be transferred to the Sludge Thickener Tank.

Sludge Thickener Tank

The sludge from the clarifier is collected in the the Sludge Thickener. This sludge will be eventually processed by the Filter Press. Any overflow will be sent to the pump station.

Filter Press

When there is enough wastewater in the sludge thickener, the slurry from the tank is pumped into the Filter Press. The filter press separates the liquids and solids using pressure filtration. Sludge Cake will form between the filter plates, where it can be safely removed and easily discarded. The filtered water is then sent to the pump station.

Met-Chem Manufacturing & Installation Process

Met-Chem manufacturers the major components of the wastewater treatment system including the filter press, clarifier, stands, chemical feed skid, and control panels. Our manufacturing facility is equipped to build all your big-ticket items.

Met-Chem Manufacturing the Wastewater Treatment System

There are some buyout items that we may choose to purchase however they are bought only from reputable, established, vendors. These items may include the mixers, diaphragm feed pumps, metering pumps, and tanks.

During the fabrication process, we completely build the system in-house. This includes mounting the tanks on stands, mounting and adjusting mixers, and running plumbing throughout the system.

Additional Wastewater Treatment Equipment

A great option we provide is our extensive used equipment inventory. We can offer refurbished clarifiers and filter presses if needed to help maintain the budget of a project.

This allows us to save time and money in the field. We can often have systems fully installed in a few days. This is very important when replacing an old system with a new one specifically during short shut down periods.

All steel components are sand blasted and then painted with a two part epoxy paint. The interior of the clarifier is painted with a two-part coal tar epoxy paint.

All equipment is loaded by Met-Chem personnel for shipping. All equipment is met by Met-Chem personnel at the job site for safe removal and installation. We only use our own personnel for unloading equipment and installation.
